A judge didn’t accept the excuse that addiction to steroids led a police officer to corruption

The former West Chest Police Department David Busemeyer attempted to convince a judge that his addiction to anabolic steroids was responsible for his corruption. But the former police officer couldn’t convince the judge. As a result, the former police officer received a half of a year in prison. Busemeyer was pleaded guilty to leaking confidential information of the Police Department that began an investigation related to a distributor of steroids.
David Busemeyer noted in the court that he had been angered and upset due to his drug addiction.
The defense attorney of David Busemeyer tried to convince the judge that his client had to be cured from his addiction. The attorney attempted to manifest that it would be the most suitable sentence for this officer’s crime.
According to several court documents, David Busemeyer used steroids for 4 years. Moreover, the former police officer took 10-15 pain tablets under prescriptions to relieve pains provoked by steroids.  
But the judge refused to accept such excuse. It seemed at the beginning that he wanted to hand down even heavier sentence but then he gave a lighter sentence because he had to be conducted by sentencing guidelines.
The judge Spaeth affirmed that Busemeyer had put at risk own safety and safety of other police officers. He put at risk reputation of the whole police department.
 It became evident that David Busemeyer had extra-marital relationship with the sister of the drug dealer that was investigated by the West Chest Police Department. David Busemeyer informed his girlfriend and his brother that an investigation to bust the distributor of steroids started to be conducted.
Although David Busemeyer didn’t say the name of the informant, he presented enough information to guess who he was.
Police officers raided Busemeyer’s house and found steroids and evidence of his application of steroids.
It was made a decision not to chase the former police officer for possession of steroids and fake prescriptions for usage of these products.
