It is not recommended to increase dosages of inhaled steroids for persons with asthma exacerbation

Inhaled corticosteroids are ordinarily directed in case of early asthma complications.
According to certain recent researches, one can increase the standard dosage of inhaled corticosteroids by 8 times, but positive effects will be not enhanced in such situation. Ejaz Yousef, a specialist that has been involved in these researches, claims that if a physician observes that medical position of a patient worsens, he/she can advise taking oral steroids instead of enhancing the dose of inhaled corticosteroids. Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a research that implicated almost 200 kids of 2-17 years. These kids were treated with inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for treatment for a period of 12 days. Any kid that had asthma exacerbation was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the experts.
No any child that smoked, had symptoms of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the research.
Patients needed to let know about their negative reactions per telephone within 72 hours. So, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance when it comes to exercises. Each effect was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant no any sigh; 4 meant the highest severity level.
Only 4 kids out of 82 the children that were given increased doses of inhaled corticosteroids had to apply systemic corticosteroids. 2 of them were given doubled measures; others 2 were administering the measure which was more increased by 8 times than a standard one.
According to the results of the study, usefulness of the preparations, placebo effect, supervision of experts and treatment of patients during early stages of asthma exacerbation were responsible for obtaining good results.
This as well as other studies demonstrate that not every story about steroids is linked with abuse and administration of them by sportspeople. Steroids are utilizable for many medical cases.
